Report Suspected Cases of Tuberculosis- Kwara Govt advises residents

The Kwara State Government has called on residents of Oke Ero Local Government Area of the state, to be vigilant to enable them report individuals showing symptoms of Tuberculosis (TB), to the nearest government health facility, to avoid viral infection.

This call was made by Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, during the investiture ceremony of the Oke Ero Local Government Tuberculosis Ambassador, held at the Oke-Ero Local Government Headquarters, Ilofa.

While speaking at the occasion, El-Imam, stated that the approach is aimed at curbing the spread of the disease and ensure early detection and treatment, to avoid spreading the airborne disease.

She further emphasized the importance of utilizing government healthcare interventions, including medical outreaches, immunization programs and visits to public health facilities, to protect the community from contacting TB and other infectious diseases.

She urged residents to support the campaign by spreading the awareness and ensure that anyone showing symptoms of the ailment like persistent cough, weight loss, night sweats and fever seek immediate medical attention, at the nearest government approved facilities.

El-Imam reaffirmed the commitment of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to making quality healthcare services accessible to all residents.

She commended Local Government the Councils and traditional Rulers for their continued role as health advocates, therefore encouraged them to remain proactive in the fight against TB.

Also speaking at the event, the Director Public Health, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, called on citizens to take advantage of the state’s free Tuberculosis vaccination and treatment programs, to get tested and treated if positive, adding that early detection and treatment are crucial in eliminating the disease from the state.

The Chairman, Oke-Ero Local Government, Abiodun Fadipe, expressed deep appreciation for government’s efforts at tackling Tuberculosis, especially at the grassroots, assuring them of this administration’s commitments to supporting Tuberculosis elimination initiatives and enhancing public health within the Local Government Area.

The event was well attended by stakeholders, including, a member representing Oke- Ero Local Government, Kwara State House of Assembly, Joseph Bamgboye, Chairman of Ekiti Local Government, Gabriel Awelewa and His Royal Majesty(HRM) Oba Samuel Niyi Dada, the Alofa of Ilofa, alongside other traditional rulers and community leaders.
