The Peoples’ Democratic Party caucus at the House of Representatives has re-emphasized the urgent need to restructure the Nigerian Security sector to ensure security of lives and property in the country.
The caucus in a briefing on the worsening insecurity in the country also called for declaration of state of emergency on security for a secure and peaceful Nigeria.
Leader of the caucus, Mr. Kingsley Chinda, from Rivers State condemned the recent killing of rice farmers in Borno State and abduction of students in Katsina State adding that the caucus would not allow insecurity to disrupt the Nation.
“Though the PDP is in the Minority, we are entitled to have our say and that is what we will continue to do and that is what we are doing.
Let it be known that we are not interested in politicking with security, but we want the safety of Nigerians to be given priority.
The joint resolution of the National Assembly encompassing all political parties calling for the removal of the security chiefs was as usual ignored.” Mr. Chinda explained.
While calling for more measures to end the unfortunate situation, the caucus reiterated its call for the easing out of service chiefs to allow fresh ideas that would bring insecurity to a halt.
The call came on the heels of the unknown gunmen that stormed a boarding secondary school in Katsina State six days ago and abducted hundreds of students.
