The House of Representatives has resolved to constitute an Ad-hoc Committee to investigate alleged abused and mismanagement of proceeds of Peace Keeping Operations from 2010 to 2022.

This followed the adoption of a motion on need to investigate Alleged Abuse of Peace Keeping Operations and Mismanagement of its Proceeds and Funds, moved by Zakaria Dauda Nyampa.

Nyampa stated that “peace keeping operations among countries plays is critical role in stabilising fragile countries like Nigeria, as well as prevent vulnerable regions from becoming terrorist safe havens.”

The proceeds of peace keeping operation has never featured as source of revenue in the national budget nor captured in the Medium Term Expenditures Framework, MTEF, usually presented to the parliament by the previous administration in the country. The mismanagement of the proceeds of peace keeping operation in Nigeria has reached a point where all the parties involved need to account for the spending;

“If this practice of non-inclusion of proceeds of Peace Keeping operations in the budgets and Medium Term Expenditures Framework and poor accountability of funds is not stoped , nation building will be meaningless,” the lawmaker said.

The Ad-hoc committee is expected to report back to the House within four weeks for further legislative action.
