Research scores Nigerian patients covered by NHIA high

NMA- CIPE Disemination of Research Findings on Patients Satisfaction with the Services Provided Under The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), has been presented to the public.

The research which seek to determine the how satisfied enrollees of the National Health Authority are, says Nigerians still indulge in our of pocket expenditures.

According to Prof. Madu Awa, who gave a brief of the report says, “There is the need for synergy and bridge of communication gaps between stakeholders in order to improve NHIA services.

There is need to create an environment to make healthcare assessible.

“There is need for more cordial relationship between the NHIA and Health Management Organizations for improved efficiency.”

Responding to the research findings, the Director General of the NHIA, Prof Muhammed Sambo, appreciated the detailed research.

He said that the findings are a true reflection of the operations of the authority.

He noted that the NHIA is working hard to make the NHIA to work.

He also called on all stakeholders to come together to make NHIA, the pride of the future.

“On the issue of synergy, we have taken that and we are going to work on it,” he said.

He called on the researchers to simplify the recommendations for easier understanding.

The Lead Consultant Researcher to the project, Prof. Innocent Ujah, said that the research became necessary in order to find ways of improving the work of the NHIA.

He pointed out that the research which focused on four states was narrowed to Aba, Onitsha, Kano and Lagos and respondents were drawn from both sexes.

In her presentation, the Country Director of Centre for International Enterprise, Mrs. Omonwumi Gbadamosi, sponsors of the research, said that the research finding will address some of the lapses on the research.

While launching the report, the Nigerian Minister of State for Health, Barr. Joseph Ekumankama, said that there is nothing that could be achieved in life without research.

He said that research is key to improving the old and inventing the new.

He also noted that any collaboration to improve the Nigerian health sector is always well received by the ministry.

He added that the ministry would look into the work and utilise it for the benefit of Nigerians.

On his part, the Minister of Science and Technology, Olorunnimbe Mamora, said that the National Office of Potent, a parastatal under the ministry would support findings to translate to better health outcomes.
