A retired Civil servant, Mr. Baba Jiya Kolo has emerged as the Kwara North Senatorial Candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party. (NNPP).
He emerged through a consensus arrangement held at Bode Saadu in Moro local government area of Kwara State, North Central Nigeria.
Kolo was affirmed as the candidate of the party by all the delegates present at the primary election supervised by INEC and national officials of the party.
In his acceptance speech, Mr. Baba Jiya Kolo promised to make youth empowerment his focal point at the senate.
Kolo said he is highly overwhelmed over the confidence and trust the people of his senatorial district have for him.
’’I did not give any delegate money you could bear me witness that I did not give money to anyone and to any delegate”, the candidate declared.
He also promised to sponsor a bill for the full granting of local government autonomy as that will be the only way forward for the development of the grassroots.
He, however, called on his supporters to guide against quarreling with anybody stressing that politics in NNPP is not a politics of ’’do or die’’ but about serving the people.
He appealed to supporters of the Party to avoid violence and obtain their Permanent Voters Cards PVC in order to be eligible to vote.
The candidate later paid a courtesy visit to traditional rulers where he solicited their support during the forthcoming senatorial election for his candidacy.
