Rice Farmers Receives Agro Inputs Ahead of Planting Season

The Federal, Ogun State government and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Assisted-Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), have supported no fewer than 450 rice and cassava value chain farmers with agro inputs toward the 2023 planting season.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Samuel Adeogun, while flagging off the distribution of Agro Inputs to farmers for 2023 planting season at Isonyin, Ijebu North East Local Government Area, said the support was to help farmers boost their production and meet the challenges of food security.

Adeogun said the beneficiaries were selected from eight local government area across the state which include Obafemi-Owode, Yewa North, Yewa South, Ijebu North East, Ijebu East, Ifo, Odogbolu and Odeda local government.

He added that the implementation of the programme was in line with the objective of Agricultural Promotion Policy (APP) and the National Economic Recovery and Growth Plan.

“The objective was to catalyse a market-led value added production, processing and marketing of rice and cassava commodities and products by smallholder farmers through the adoption of best practices and innovations that increase efficiencies of value chain of the commodities, attracts the youth and ensure gender inclusiveness,” he said.
