Erhabor called on established musicians to mentor emerging talents to ensure the growth and evolution of reggae music, while also promoting inspirational and uplifting lyrics.
“There is a need to groom more artists like Majek Fashek and Ras Kimono, who used reggae music as a tool to fight societal injustice,” he said.
“Attempts should not be made to kill reggae music as it remains a voice against social injustice.
“In spite the growing interest in reggae, many up-and-coming artistes face significant challenges in getting their music heard and gaining recognition in the industry.
“Music executives, renowned artistes and music enthusiasts must begin to support artistes to embrace the music”.
“We should have more cases of older artistes grooming the younger ones in reggae music, just like we had Olamide grooming Asake, and Don Jazzy grooming some others.
“Reggae cannot die, people try to kill it because we address issues surrounding societal ills. This is more reason reggae music must be protected.” Erhabor highlighted that emerging artists could be supported and encouraged through actions such as attending their shows, sharing their music on social media, or collaborating with them on projects.
He noted that reggae music has long been a powerful tool for raising awareness, initiating conversations, and inspiring change.
“Reggae music has always been about spreading messages of love, unity, and resistance against injustice, from legends like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh to contemporary artists. It has consistently provided a platform for voices that need to be heard,” he said.
Erhabor urged young artists to embrace reggae as a means of expressing their concerns and advocating for positive
transformation.
