Rihanna drops lawsuit against her father
Barbadian singer, Rihanna reportedly dropped lawsuit against her father Ronald Fenty, just weeks before they were due to appear in court, over claims he used her name to make money without her permission.
The Billionaire singer says her father was booking shows for her despite not being her agent, including a $15m overseas tour without checking with her.
The singer alleged it caused her reputational damage when it came to talking to promoters and venues.
The Umbrella singer, who is the world’s richest female musician, has apparently reached a settlement out of court with Ronald Fenty in an effort to avoid a public dispute, according to a filing seen by Radar.
Rihanna filed the lawsuit in 2019, saying: “Although Mr Fenty is Rihanna’s father, he does not have, and never has had, authority to act on Rihanna’s behalf.”
Rihanna also alleged her father tried to trademark the phrase “Fenty” and use it to open hotels, and she asked the court for an injunction against her father.
He said he was the first to use the name and asked for the lawsuit to be thrown out.
