Rivers hospital Board honours LG chairman for contributing to health sector

Rivers Hospital Management Board has commended Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Erastus Awortu for ensuring uninterrupted operation of the Ngo General Hospital.

The Chief Medical Director of the Board, Dr Bright Ogbondah, made the commendation in Port Harcourt while presenting a certificate of honour to Chairman of the area Council Erastus Awortu who spearheaded the laudable fate.

According to the Medical Director, the award is in recognition of the chairman’s outstanding contributions to smooth healthcare delivery in the area.

He revealed that prior to Awortu’s administration, Ngo General Hospital, which is the only Secondary Health care facility in the area, was closed in the wake of heightened insecurity area.

“The council chairman has tremendously assisted the state Hospital Management Board for reopening the hospital, this was achieved through his various peace initiatives which eventually made the area safe and habitable.

“The chairman was able to achieve this feat because of his love for his people and an unwavering commitment to impart humanity which is why we have conferred on him an award of ‘Most Health-Friendly Council Chairman,” he said.

The board noted that the hospital was once shut down due to insecurity and unsafe work environment for the staff.

In his response, the Chairman appreciated the board for the award while also adding that the honour done to him would spur him to do more towards improving access to quality healthcare in the area.
