Rivers State: NSCDC Recovers Firearms, Equipment from Oil Vandals

The Special Intelligence Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has recovered firearms, dangerous equipment and other items from vandals who ravaged oil trunk lines and vandalised oil and gas installations at the Idia/Ogburu waterside settlement camp located around a multinational company in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, One LGA of Rivers State.

This is in furtherance of the Corp’s determination to effectively carry out its mandate of safeguarding all critical national assets and infrastructure

The squad, acting on an Intelligence tip-off that a syndicate that specializes in attacking security operatives while vandalizing oil pipeline installations around the multinational gas pipeline, swung into action and arrested a woman, while others are currently at large.

Speaking with journalists, the Commander of the squad, Appolos Dandaura, hinted that the woman was apprehended in a thatched hut located at the camp and later volunteered the information that the incriminating items were owned by her husband, Chukwuemeka Uche, the woman, named Joy Isaac, aged 36, said she and the husband have been in the business for 2 years.

“While effecting the arrest, we were able to recover the following as exhibits; 2 locally fabricated pistols, 1 New yellow FIRMAN FPG 4800 EZ Electric Power Generating Set, 1 JUMLEE SS 1800 new stainless steel Hole saw 1 PTFE Thread seal tape, Welding Electrolyte pieces, a Spade, a Shovel, 1 red Top flex mini 200 A 1GBT Welding machine, 2 Red F MAXMECH mini welding machine, 2 orange colour Heavy duty wrench (24), 1 bronco saw, 1 Makita li-ion drilling machine, 1 top flex drilling machine, 3 drilling machine batteries, vandalized wellhead valves of different sizes, wellhead wrenches, 1 pelvic ball oil well valve, numerous cellophane bags for packaging petroleum products, Coloured red, black and white electrical cables,  A golden colour Infinix smart 8 Android smartphone, A white coloured ITEL 2000 AMP power bank, 1 micro sized Techno Android phone, 1 non-functioning Glo Green Infinix Android, 1 non-functioning Techno Android, 1 button phone (not functioning) and a VWO Android phone ( not functioning).

“The suspect and all exhibits have been handed over to the Intelligence Department of the Rivers State Command while all necessary briefing has been made to the State Commandant Basil Igwebueze to enhance further investigation and possible prosecution,” the Commandant noted.

The need to shun all acts of economic sabotage in the nation has become very necessary as culprits would be made to face the wrath of the law; hence, the public is advised to engage in meaningful businesses and cooperate with the government by giving credible information to the security agencies, most especially the NSCDC, which remains the lead agency in the protection of all Critical National Assets and Infrastructure at the National, State and Local government levels.
