In its effort to reduce the rampant cases of auto crashes and loss of lives in the state, the Oyo State Government has inaugurated the Oyo State Road Safety Advisory Council.

The inauguration took place at the Executive Council chamber of the Governor’s office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan, the state capital,

While inaugurating the 10-man Advisory Council, Governor Makinde tasked the council to work on how to curb the incessant cases of road accidents in the state.

Makinde noted: “The reason we are constructing world-class roads and infrastructures is because we want people to enjoy driving on those roads. Apart from the roads targeting our economy and connecting our zones, we want people to experience real pleasure driving on these roads. But what you see is that people start speeding anyhow on the roads.”

“Now, we have to put speed bumps, which again will make driving not pleasurable. So, we have real challenges to deal with. Apart from educating drivers, the council has to let them and passengers know that if somebody is already drunk there is no need for them to risk their lives by driving,” the governor said.

The Governor of Oyo State Seyi Makinde and the State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Chukwurah Uche.

Makinde, who called for the replication of the Advisory Council at the local government level, promised that his administration would give necessary support to the committee.
