The Minister of Works, State, Mr Bello Goronyo says fixing Nigeria’s road infrastructural deficit would cost about 19 trillion naira which cannot be funded alone by the national budget hence the need for public-private partnership.

He stated this during the Nigeria Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Summit 2025, which held in Abuja with theme “Role of Public-Private Partnerships in Delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda”.

Mr Goronyo explained that the government would not sign Public Private Partnership Road construction agreements that would only favour the concessionaires.

He further emphasized the need for transparency by concessionaires when signing a PPP agreement.

“We cannot in the name of PPP, mortgage our country by signing agreements that tend to favour concessionaires.”

The Minister expressed appreciation for President Bola Tinubu for recognising infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth and development.

The Nigeria Public-Private Partnership Summit 2025, hosted by the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), was focused on bringing together policymakers, investors, and industry leaders to engage in insightful discussions about the evolving landscape of infrastructure in Nigeria and its global implications.
