The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state has expressed concern over the low level of compliance of motorists with the installation of Speed Limit Devices and passengers’ manifest, especially among fleet operators in the state.

The Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, announced plans to clamp down on offenders, including drivers who disable speed limit devices to deceive enforcement operatives.

Speaking to newsmen in Awka, Alexander disclosed that the enforcement would be effective from March 1 2025, as part of efforts to minimize road traffic crashes and save lives of commuters in the state. She emphasized the importance of passengers’ blood group information in manifests for timely identification and medical attention in case of emergencies.

Alexander stated, “We will no longer tolerate erring fleet operators and motorists. Those found sabotaging the implementation of the Speed Limit Device and passengers’ manifest will be arrested, and their vehicles impounded.”

She also praised the collaboration of the media in educating the public on road safety rules in the state.

The Sector Commander appreciated the Anambra state government for road construction and rehabilitation efforts, which have contributed to reducing road crashes. She urged road users to obey traffic rules to ensure the safety of all commuters.

“The FRSC will conduct special intervention patrols to enforce compliance with the Speed Limit Device and passengers’ manifest regulations.

“With the enforcement set to commence on March 1, motorists and fleet operators are encouraged to ensure full compliance to avoid penalties and contribute to safer roads in Anambra state,” she added.
