RoLAC seeks inclusive justice system for PWDs

The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme has called for the inclusivity of Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) in the justice system of Nigeria.

Mrs Ajibola Ijimakinwa, the Coordinator of RoLAC 11 in Lagos, made the call during a one-day state level dialogue with PWDs on Wednesday.

The RoLAC 11, is an European Union funded programme implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance.

Ijimakinwa said the state-level dialogue was organised to address the challenges faced by PWDs in Nigeria’s criminal justice system.

According to her, the dialogue aims to make the justice system more inclusive, responsive, and tailored to the specific needs of individuals with disabilities.

She noted that the event was to build on the successes of the first phase.

“RoLAC II seeks to strengthen justice system and anti-corruption reforms while promoting human rights and gender equality.

“This dialogue is part of RoLAC’s broader goal of ensuring that Nigeria’s justice system effectively serves all citizens, especially vulnerable groups.

“The workshop will help capture and map the experiences of persons with disabilities within the criminal justice system, identify the barriers they face, and propose strategies to improve their access to justice insights,” she said.

According to get, the outcome of the workshop will be a guide for justice sector reforms, focusing on inclusivity and efficiency, and ensuring that the voices of PWDs are heard and respected.

She said that RoLAC would remain committed to justice sector reforms to address the needs of vulnerable groups in the country.

The event was attended by the joint association of person living with disabilities and other cluster groups.
