The Nigerian government has been urged to strengthen its commitment to women’s empowerment in order to equip them to play active roles and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The newly elected President of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, Dr. Christiana Okenla made the appeal during her investiture ceremony in Lagos, South Western Nigeria.
She emphasised that Nigerian women are ready and capable of making significant contributions—if given the necessary support and opportunities.
“I believe it is clear that women are here to make an impact. What we need from the government is support in creating sustainable programs that empower women and amplify their voices. That is the platform we are calling for. We are grateful whenever the government responds to our appeals, and we urge them not to give up on us,” she stated.
Dr. Okenla pledged to use her leadership role to champion initiatives that promote self-reliance and empowerment among Nigerian women.
She outlined her administration’s commitment to aligning with the Seven Areas of Focus of Rotary International, including peacebuilding, maternal and child health, basic education, environmental sustainability, and economic development.
“By focusing on these areas, we aim to create lasting, positive change in our communities and beyond,” she highlighted.
