Russia to Launch Two Iranian Satellites with Soyuz Rocket
Russia is set to launch two Iranian satellites, Kowsar and Hodhod, into orbit with a Soyuz rocket on Tuesday, according to Iran’s ambassador to Moscow. The Kowsar satellite is designed for high-resolution imaging, while the Hodhod satellite serves as a small communications device.
This launch highlights a further deepening of scientific collaboration between the two nations, both of which are subject to U.S. sanctions.
“In continuation of scientific and technological cooperation between Iran and Russia, two Iranian satellites, Kowsar and Hodhod, will be launched into a 500 km orbit on Tuesday, 5 November, using a Soyuz launch vehicle,” Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali announced in a post on X.

As reported last month by Iran’s semi-official news agency Tasnim, the launch marks a notable advancement for Iran’s private space sector.
In February, Russia had previously launched an Iranian research-sensing satellite, Pars 1, into space using a Soyuz rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome.
