Russian Minister dies trying to save man during Arctic exercise
Russian Minister of Emergency Situations and Civil Protection, Yevgeny Zinichev died on Wednesday during a military exercise in the Russian city of Norilsk while trying to save a cameraman.
According to the ministry, “He was trying to save a person, much is still unclear about the death of the 55-year-old minister.
“Zinichev stood on a ledge with a cameraman, the cameraman allegedly slipped and fell.
“He had wanted to save him and jumped into the water too, but would have landed on a stone sticking out of the water. The cameraman has also died.”
The ministry released the news that Zinichev had begun large-scale experimental research training in the Arctic as part of this, he had traveled to Norilsk.
The intention is that emergency situations are practiced in the areas around the North Pole on water and land.
He was in the Arctic to oversee the exercises. Among other things, he visited a construction site for a new fire station in the area.
