Quality education is vital — it shapes worldviews, broadens horizons, and equips graduates to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world.
Those were the words of Russia’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Podelyshev, when a delegation from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), visited Abuja to inform Nigerian students about the benefits of studying in Russia.
Ambassador Podelyshev described the university not merely as a place of study, but as an environment for quality knowledge essential to facing the challenges of today’s global system.
“MGIMO is a place where ambition meets opportunity, where talent is nurtured, and where global perspectives are formed,” he said.
Priority
Ambassador Podelyshev highlighted that MGIMO University is actively expanding its cooperation with African countries through scholarships, academic exchanges, and institutional partnerships — with Nigeria identified as a top priority.
He stressed that students are trained to think critically, negotiate, and analyse complex global processes, while operating confidently in multicultural and multilingual environments. The university offers instruction in more than 50 foreign languages — a globally recognised achievement that creates a truly international academic experience.
Global Reach
Ekaterina Shuvalova, Advisor to the Rector’s Office and Deputy Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work, and International Relations at MGIMO University, led the delegation’s engagement with prospective Nigerian students.
Shuvalova said the university was keen on deepening its footprint in West Africa’s largest education market and building long-term academic bridges with Nigerian institutions.
The event drew approximately 200 participants from Nigerian educational circles, journalists, compatriots, schoolchildren, and students interested in studying in Russia and pursuing careers in international relations.
Alumni Speak
The Chairman of the Soyuznik Alumni Association’s Abuja Branch, Dr. Agu Collins Agu offered living proof of the value of a Russian education.
He credited his time in Russia with laying the foundation for a career that spanned the Microelectronics Center Project at Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) and the development of the Unity Board AI/IoT STEAM Education Kit— now adopted by the Nigerian Government for national STEM education.
“Undertaking Russian education will build a new generation of highly skilled, globally exposed Nigerians capable of driving innovation, governance, and economic growth,” Dr. Agu said.
