Safety: Gombe State to partner with Police Community Relations Committee

The Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Jatau has reiterated the government’s commitment to partner with Police- Community Relations Committee and any organization aimed at ensuring the safety of the lives and property of the people in the state.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the North East National Vice Chairman, Mr Attah Mark Mustapha, the Deputy Governor explained that the administration of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya was exploring all avenues to ensure the people of the state go on with their legitimate activities without fear of molestation.
He commended the Police-Community Relations Committee for complementing the activities of the administration in meeting the security needs of the people, saying their activities were in tandem with the state government’s commitment to areas of security.
The Deputy Governor said by involving stakeholders including, Traditional Rulers, Community and Religious Leaders and Local Hunters, among others, they had applied the system theory in handling security matters to ensure all sections were carried along in tackling security matters.
Manassah advised the committee to always frown at issues capable of causing security threats and breaches, by providing relevant information to the regular security operatives, who would ensure the apprehension of the criminals and make them face corresponding punishment.
He called on them to assist in curving the culture of deviant behaviours amongst the youths, to help change their psyche and perception of recklessness, begging and thuggery toward a crime-free society.
The Deputy Governor also called on them to synergize with other security outfits, especially Operation Hattara in the state metropolis in case they needed any emergency assistance while assuring them of the government’s support to the PCRC.
Mr Attah Mustapha said the Committee was set up during the time of the Inspector General of Police, the Late Etem Iyang, with the sole aim of getting credible and reliable members who would help in providing better understanding between the police and the society.
The Vice Chairman, who is the brother to the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federal, Mr. Boss Mustapha, pointed out the need for the Committee to have an office in the state and an operational vehicle to ease the performance of their activities, appealing for assistance from the government.
The state Chairman, Mr. Garba Ubale Kumo said the officials of the Six North East states were meeting in Gombe to discuss matters affecting security in the zone.
Mr Ubale commended the Government of Governor Yahaya for performing excellently in maintaining peace and order in the state.
