Liverpool moved three points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating Newcastle 4-2, with talisman Mohamed Salah scoring twice and recording an assist in the thrilling encounter at Anfield.

The hosts featured Darwin Nunez in attack, with Egyptian Salah and Luis Diaz supporting on the wings. For the visitors, Alexander Isak led the line with Joelinton and Anthony Gordon on the flanks.

Salah, who saw his first half penalty saved by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Darwin Nunez cut the ball across to the Egyptian for a close-range finish.

Newcastle forward Isak then equalised in the 54th minute when he ran onto a through ball from Anthony Gordon and placed the ball past goalkeeper Alisson into the far corner.

However, Curtis Jones put the home side back in front in the 74th minute with a tap-in after a pass across goal from Diogo Jota. 2-1 to Liverpool!

Salah, who was playing his last game before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, struck from the penalty spot to seal the win in the 86th minute after Substitute Diogo Jota had been fouled by Dubravka in the box.
