The Kano State Police Command, North West Nigeria, has banned all Durbar activities across the state ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr Sallah celebrations.
This is coming amid rising tension in the state over parallel Durbar activities by both the 15th Emir of Kano Aminu Bayero and the 16 Emir of Kano Mohammadu Sanusi who have been in disagreement over the Chieftaincy.
Although Emir Bayero in a press statement revert his decision on the Dubar.
However, the Kano State Police Commissioner CP Ibrahim Bakori while briefing Journalists in Kano announced that, “the ban on Durbar activities became necessary after consultations and obtaining relevant security situation in the state.”
CP Bakori said; “the rising tension and uncertainties around the Durbar activities in Kano resulted in the decision.
“The Command in liaison with other security agencies, having obtained and assessed the security situations in the State, especially the rising tension and uncertainties around the Durbar activities, particularly, the tendency to plunge the State into anarchy, made necessary consultations with the Kano State Government, the parties, and other critical stakeholders.”
“As part of collective commitment to sustaining the peace and security, a ban has been placed on all Durbar activities throughout the State during the 2025 Eid-El-Fitr Sallah celebrations. This decision was made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following credible intelligence reports indicating orchestrated plan by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar as proxy to undermine security and public order,” CP Bakori explained.
He advised Worshippers to conduct their normal Eid prayers at designated praying grounds, as adequate security deployments have been concluded to guarantee the peace and public safety.
“Worshippers going to Eid praying grounds are advised to adhere to the following security tips,” CP Bakori said.
He warned them against carrying unnecessary objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension, no horse riding (Kilisa), Car-racing, reckless and dangerous driving.
CP Bakori advised parents and guardians to caution their children against being used by subversive elements as the Police and other security agencies are determined to enforce the law.
He said; “Members of the public are warned to desist from any act or conduct that may likely cause breach of the peace or breakdown of law and order.
“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount.”
