National Leadership of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has refuted claims made by some alleged members of the Kaduna State SDP chapter, who alleging that former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-rufai is not a member of the party.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the SDP, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba stated that Mallam El-rufai has recently been received among the new members of the party.

Elrufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to join the SDP, has garnered widespread support and solidarity since his departure from his former party.

The National Chairman of the SDP, Mr. Shehu Gabam has vehemently condemned the rumors, calling them “false” and “misleading.”

Mr. Gabam clarified that the party’s national leadership was unaware of any such claims circulating within its Kaduna chapter and urged the public to disregard the reports.

The SDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Working Committee (NWC) have also dismissed claims made by one Idris Inuwa, who purportedly introduced himself as the Assistant National Secretary for the Northwest zone of the party.

Mr. Gabam challenged Inuwa to present valid proof of his election as Assistant National Secretary, along with certification documents from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to substantiate his claims.

Additionally, the SDP leadership is aware of an alleged attempt by elements within the APC-ledion administration in Kaduna to disrupt the party’s unity.

It is alleged that certain individuals claiming to be members of the SDP were invited and financially supported to destabilize the party as part of an ongoing campaign to undermine its progress.

The National Chairman of the SDP warned that these baseless allegations were part of a larger plot to destabilise the SDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He emphasised the importance of safeguarding the unity and strength of the party against efforts to weaken it through internal strife and media manipulation.

“The general public should be cautious of such tactics designed to distract and divide our party.

“There is no leadership crisis within the SDP. Mallam Nasir Elrufai is a respected member of our party, and we stand united in our vision for a better Nigeria,” Gabam  stated.

The National Leadership of the party stated that despite these challenges, the SDP remains resolute in its commitment to unity and progress.

The party has called on its members and the public to continue their support as it works towards a stronger political future.

Mr. Gabam reaffirmed that the party would take all necessary steps to protect its integrity and ensure its success in national development and governance.
