The Retired Former Director of Operations, Nigerian Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Lanre Bello has called on Nigerians to bring back satellites which will improve security for the use of the military to cover the entire country.
General Bello who made this known during Voice of Nigeria flashing News magazine IN -The -NEWS, also believes that the proposed satellites would improve the country’s capability in the field.
He said that there was a time when Nigeria launched a satellite which could be resuscitated.
According to General Bello, the evolving development in the field keeps changing every time and there is a need to change to be able to meet up the trend.
He said before, Nigeria was not using unarmed aerial vehicles but today, both unarmed and armed aerial vehicles are being employed in the field, which has really changed for good.
Brigadier General Bello emphasized that target information is key and vital to any operation, and would derive intelligence from it, get information, analyze it, turn it into intelligence, and apply it until it goes a long way.
“I would advise military leadership personally to look at how artificial intelligence can impact our role in the field. Because whether we like it or not, as things are evolving, we cannot be left behind. We must be following the trend of events. So we need to be teaching our personnel on the role artificial intelligence will play in modern warfare”, he said.
He noted that in the past, the issue of intelligence had been the issue saying: “I know in the past we had that issue, but the issue has been addressed as there has been cooperation now.”
According to him, the three services are working together like one, that’s why they have been achieving a lot of successes adding that that rivalry is no longer there.
General Bello said that life after retirement is a different ballgame.
According to him, retirement is not a death sentence, people should not be afraid, especially if one has served in the military, you are prepared in your mind that one day you must retire and that would prepare everybody to go back home safely and join his family.
“After retirement, I went back to my community to put into practice the knowledge acquired by giving back to my community and that’s why I will give myself the title as a tattoo of Jaguimolu of Iboroland meaning somebody that went to the battlefield and came back with victory, with honour, he said.
“So I’m a high chief of being a general, after retirement, because the stipends from me cannot sustain me. So I enjoyed family and business. I’m a businessman.”
He pleaded with the President and Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the prompt payment of the pension adding that he should do more so that the people still in service would be encouraged and commit their lives to the job.
Meanwhile, he narrated his experience and achievements while in the service.
