The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru has called for the introduction of Community Policing to meet the current security challenges in the country.

Governor Nwifuru gave the indication when the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), in charge of zone 9, Umuahia, Suleiman Yusuf paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital.

He attributed the prevailing peace and tranquillity in the State to the synergy and cooperation between the police and the state government.

According to the governor, “Community policing is the best option in crime prevention. The reason is because you must first of all know the terrain before you act. Community policing is a kind of information giving. It is my duty to protect lives and property, and I want to sincerely congratulate you for your position.”

Nwifuru called on the Nigerian police to introduce a reward system that will encourage officers and men of the Force to carry out their duties more effectively.

“We must at this point encourage performing officers by  rewarding those who put their lives on the line to protect lives and property of the citizens.

“I have personally  encouraged Officers who are performing creditably.”

Earlier in his remarks, the AIG told Governor Nwifuru that he was in the state to interface with the officers and men of the command in order to enhance their operations.

“I am equally here to appreciate you for the support you have been given to the police in Ebonyi State to be able to perform excellently. Ebonyi State is most peaceful compared to other states in the Zone. I thank you for all you have been doing for the Officers and men in the Command.”

The AIG further enjoined other stakeholders to join forces with police in the state to ensure effective policing.

Voice Of Nigeria reports that Suleiman Yusuf assumed office as the AIG in charge of zone 9 in Umuahia, Abia State, in December 2024.
