A Nigerian security expert and law enforcement officer with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, New Jersey, United State of America, Felix Asuquo has advocated support for Nigeria Police Force, NPF and families of uniformed personnel killed in the line of duty.
Asuquo a native of Akpabuyo in Cross River State who made the call in a letter to the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu condoled with the NPF, especially the Cross River State Command, over the killing of four policemen last Thursday morning while at a routine checkpoint by hoodlums.
“While this is a trying moment for both the NPF and families of the slain officers, I acknowledge that this incident is capable of jeopardising the already fragile morale of members of the NPF.
“It is only expedient at this time that Nigerians, both home and abroad, come together to support the families of these slain men in uniform, who died in the line of active duty while providing the service they were sworn to,” he further stated.
He noted, “As a security expert based in the United States, I would like to offer educational support to the children of these four fallen heroes. I believe the assistance will lessen the impact of the gap created due to the loss of their fathers.”
The US-based security expert also urged, “The government at every level, the NPF and conscientious individuals need to support the families of these fine men and others, who murdered in the line of duty.”
In a response, Sikiru Akande the Police Commissioner assured him of the cooperation of the Cross River command adding that; “This is quite commendable and we are very impressed with what Mr Asuquo has promised to do for the families of the fallen policemen”.
He urged, “We call on other well-spirited individuals to take a cue from what Mr Asuquo has done. These gallant officers died in their line of duty to provide security for the state.”
It would be recalled that on Thursday 25 February 2021 at about some minutes after midnight, gunmen swooped on four policemen on duty at a checkpoint in Calabar and opened fire, killing all four.
