Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammad Badaru, has emphasized that national security is a collective responsibility, stating that safeguarding the country cannot rest solely on the shoulders of the military but must involve the active participation of all citizens.
He made this assertion during a media parley held to mark the two-year anniversary of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, and the Service Chiefs in office.
The event served as a platform to reflect on the achievements of the military leadership and to call for deeper collaboration between the armed forces and the Nigerian populace in addressing the country’s security challenges.
Represented by Major General Ahmed Jubrin Rtd, the Minister said that “it is imperative that every Nigerian understand the important symbiotic relationship”.
According to him, transparency, collaboration and strategic communication are indispensable tools in their collective effort to secure the nation.
He affirmed that the outposts of Nigeria belong to all Nigerians as their successes are their collective successes just as their challenges are of significant concern to them.
According to him, consistent and honest communication between the military and media and the public is essential as the role of the media in this partnership cannot be overemphasized.
He underscored the valuable role of stakeholders, their insights, kindly advice and unwavering support which would go a long way in strengthening the operational effectiveness of our armed forces.
