Security: Nigerian Leader, Governors consider adoption of State Police

The Nigerian government says it is considering adopting State Police to tackle the rising challenges of insecurity facing the country.

The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Thursday after a closed-door meeting between President Bola Tinubu and governors at the Presidential Villa.

According to him, “The possibility of state police will be further discussed but as it is President Tinubu and the 36 Governors are on the same page on the necessity for State police”

He further said a lot of work needs to be done, and the President and Governors have agreed on working out the modalities.

The Minister also disclosed that the President and the Governors also discussed the possibility of improving the numeric strength of Forest Guards so as to keep Nigerian forests and borders safe

“The President and the governors have also discussed the possibility of improving the numeric strengths of forest guards so that they can keep our forest and our borders very safe.” The Minister added.
