Minister of Information and National Orientation says the Nigerian government is working to improve the security of lives and property as part of efforts to achieve the 8-Point Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu has vowed to expand the economy, create an environment for investments and unlock job opportunities, while also tackling the challenge of insecurity.

“Government is working,’’ Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation told newsmen in Abuja, noting certain matters around security are better handled behind closed doors.

“Some of these things are not for public consumption. But I will tell you that Mr. President is deeply concerned and he is working round the clock to ensure that peace and peaceful coexistence returns to Nigeria. There is going to be no stone unturned in ensuring that that happens.”

Mohammed Idris was speaking after he hosted the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago who paid him a courtesy visit and shared insights on how the state can leverage current policies to maximize its natural potential.

The Minister said; “It tells us that the states and the sub-nationals are keying into the programmes and projects of Mr President.”

Governor Bago said Niger State, with 8.6 million hectares of land, is Nigeria’s largest state, adding the state holds 76,000 square kilometres of arable land that offers opportunities for the agricultural sector.

“We are 10% of the total size of Nigeria,” the Governor noted while speaking with newsmen.

“So, we are poised and already in a position for more agriculture in terms of animal husbandry, crop production, aquaculture, and other ways of food security.”

Support for the 8-Point Agenda

Food security has been highlighted as one of the President’s Tinubu 8-Point Agenda. Others include; ending poverty; economic growth and job creation; access to capital; improving security; improving the playing field on which people and particularly companies operate; rule of law; and fighting corruption.

During the courtesy visit by the Governor of Niger State on Tuesday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation called on state governors to support the 8-Point Agenda of the Nigerian President, saying the agenda is meant to position Nigeria in a respectful place among the comity of nations.

The Minister said the President had given marching orders to the new Ministers to mobilize Nigerians on the agenda, noting that he was aware of the hardship faced by Nigerians due to recent policies and also due to the economic downturn.

He said the President has promised the temporal challenges will give way to a new lease of life in the long run.

To cushion the effect of the hardship, the Minister said the federal government has shared palliatives in the form of assorted grains to complement the special financial intervention given to states, among other measures.
