Seed Council Holds EGS Planning Meeting To Boost Seed Production

The National Agricultural Seed Council NASC the agency saddled with the responsibility of ensuring Nigerian Farmers have access to quality certified seeds, has held its 2025 annual Early Generation Seed EGS planning and coordination meeting in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The meeting aims to ensure seed production is perfected from the foundation as Early Generation Seeds EGS determines the quality, availability and productivity of certified seeds that gets to the farmers who are the end users.
The Acting Director General of the Council Dr. Ishiaq Khalid said the meeting would focus on Assessing the Current Landscape, Strengthening Partnerships, Harnessing Innovation, Data-Driven Decision-Making, EGS Annual Data Collection Survey and Rolling out policy changes to EGS Production in the country and unveiling of new guidelines and regulations that will guide EGS production and commercialization going forward.
He said “the purpose of this EGS Planning is to ensure that our inactions do not jeopardize the role of quality seeds as the vehicle for agricultural transformation and the achievement of the Nation’s food security”
“As we discuss over the next two days, I urge all stakeholders to be bold in identifying solutions, strategic in planning, and committed to implementation. The outcomes of this meeting will contribute directly to the success of the National Food Security Agenda and the broader goals of agricultural transformation in Nigeria”.
