Semi Ajayi saves the day for West Bromwich
Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi was the hero on Tuesday night as West Bromwich Albion forward held high flying Manchester city to a 1-1 draw at Etihad stadium,
Ilkay Gundogan opened the scoring for Pep Guardiola’s men but Ruben Dias’s own goal just before half-time proved costly as City’s problems in front of goal continued in a goalless second-half despite a siege on the West Brom goal.
The Citizens expectedly continued to dominate the game probing for second goal but Ajayi led defence of Albion stood their ground.
Guardiola’s men shot themselves in the foot by conceding for the first time in seven games two minutes before half-time as they failed to clear a free-kick into the box and Semi Ajayi’s shot was deflected into his own net by Dias.
All the efforts of host led by Sergio Aguero to net the winning goal proved abortive as West Bromwich secured a valuable 1-1 draw.
