The Nigerian Senate on Wednesday approved the virement of three hundred and seventy-three million naira (N373m) for actual take off of the National Assembly Trust Fund.
The total sum consists of two hundred and fifty-five million naira (N255m) earmarked for the National Assembly e-Library and the sum of one hundred and eighteen million (N118m) earmarked for the Dashboard.
Senate approval of the budget was sequel to a motion sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Ibrahim Gobir.
The National Assembly Library Fund was established by an Act of the Nigerian parliament in 2022 but it was not backed by finance to take off.
According to the Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ovie Omo Agege who presided over Wednesday’s plenary, the virement became necessary to ensure a smooth take off and optimal operation of the National Assembly Library Fund.
Sexual Harassment Bill
Senate also on Wednesday, passed eight Bills including the sexual harassment Bill 202, and the Nigerian Arabic Language Village Establishment Bill, 2023.
Others are Budget Office of the Federation Bill, 2023, Bank Employees (Declaration of Assets) Act amendment Bill, 2023 and the Federal Medical Centres Act amendment Bill, 2023.
