Senate Confirms Appointment Of Chairman, Commissioners of NPC

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Dr Aminu Yusuf for appointment as Chairman and Kigbun Joseph Haruna and Tonga Betara Bularafa as Commissioners of the National Population Commission (NPC).

Dr Yusuf represents Niger state, while Huruna and Bularafa represent Nasarawa and Yobe on the board of the NPC.

Their confirmation followed consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on National Identity and National Population at the plenary on Tuesday.

The report was presented by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Victor Umeh (LP-Anambra).

Senator Umeh, in his report, said the committee, having conducted screening of the nominees, found them eligible and possessing the educational qualification required for appointment as Chairman and Commissioners of NPC.

He said there was no petition of any criminal or any incremental report against any of the nominees from either the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) or the Department of State Security Service. (DSS)

He said the committee had also received the three-year tax clearance certificates, including their certificates.

According to Senator Umeh, the nominees demonstrated efficient knowledge of Nigerian demography, saying that they were prepared for the jobs for which they have been nominated.

He urged the Senate to confirm their appointment.
