The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Bala Bello as the part-time Chairman of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), representing the North-East region.
Additionally, five other nominees were approved as non-executive directors of AMCON following the presentation and adoption of the report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions during plenary on Wednesday.
The confirmed non-executive directors include Yusuf Tegina Sule (North Central), Adeyemo Adeoye Stephen (South West), and Yahaya Ibrahim (North West), among others.
Others Mr Odion Charles Iyare, representing the South-South, and Mrs Emily Chidinma Osuji, representing the South-East.
Earlier, while presenting the report of the committee for consideration, Senator Osita Izunaso (APC-Imo) on behalf of the committee chairman said the committee, after a robust engagement with the nominees, being satisfied with their experiences, performances and academic qualifications, recommends the Senate confirm their appointment.
He said there was no petition against the nominees, having been cleared by the security agencies, the Police and the Department of State Security Services (DSS).
President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, after the confirmation, thanked the committee members for screening the nominees.
He expressed hope that the new managers of AMCON would bring a new vigour to the discharge of their duties.
