Nigerian Senate on Wednesday confirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s nomination of General Paul Tarfa (rtd) from Adamawa State for re-appointment as the Chairman of the North East Development Commission, NEDC, representing the North East geo-political zone.
Senate also approved the re-appointment of Mohammed Goni Alkali from Borno State (North East) as the Managing Director of the commission, and Musa Yashi from Bauchi, also North East, as the Executive Director, Humanitarian Affairs.
The appointments of new nominees confirmed are those of Ahmed AbdulSalam Yahaya from Gombe as the Executive Director, Operations and Dr. Abubakar Garba Iliya from Yobe, as the Executive Director, Administration and Finance.

Others are Hon. Gambo Maikomo representing Taraba (North East), Abdullahi Abbas -Kano (North West), Tsav Stephen Aondoana -Benue (North Central), Chief Mutiu Lawal Are -Lagos (South West), Hon. Samuel Ifeanyi Onuigbo -Abia (South East) and Frank Achinike Owhor from Rivers (South South) confirmed as board members of the commission.
It would be recalled that a letter from the Presidency requesting for the screening and confirmation of the nominees was read last week by the Senate President on the floor of the chamber.
The President explained that his action was in line with Section 5 of the North East Development Commission, Act 2023.
