The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointment of Mr Ola Olukoyede and Muhammed
Hammajoda as the Chairman and Secretary of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had on October 12, 2023, appointed Mr Olukoyede and Mr Hammajoda as chairman and secretary to the commission pending Senate confirmation.

Mr Olukoyede, 54, now replaces the former head of the anti-graft agency, Mr Abdulrasheed Bawa, who was suspended nearly four months ago.
It would be recalled that the Department of State Services (DSS) on June 14, 2023 invited the suspended EFCC Chairman.

According to the DSS, this follows the President’s approval of Bawa’s indefinite suspension “To allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office.”
The Upper Chamber also confirmed the nomination of Mrs. Halima Shehu as the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Investment Programme Agency,
The confirmation of the three nominees followed their screening by the Upper Chamber after they were appointed by the President few weeks ago.
During screening and confirmation, Mr Olukoyede said that financial crimes have overwhelmed the structures and systems in Nigeria and promised to curb them without fear or favour and in line with the provisions of the law.
He also said he would focus on preventing corruption rather than enforcement.
Biography
The new EFCC Chairman was born on October 14, 1969 in Ikere-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
He had his university education at the Lagos State University; University of Lagos; Institute of Arbitration, France and the Kennedy School of Executive Education, University of Harvard, United States.
Prior to Mr Olukoyede’s appointment as the Executive Chairman of the EFCC, he worked as a lawyer at a law firm owned by former Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo and has over twenty-two (22) years of experience as a regulatory compliance consultant and specialist in fraud management and corporate intelligence.
At the EFCC, he served as the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Ibrahim Magu (2016–2018) and Secretary to the Commission (2018–2023)
The EFCC chairman was a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel, United Kingdom.
Findings also reveal that he is a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of Refuge, Lagos Province 12, Shasha, Lagos State.
He is a member of the Fraud Advisory Panel, United Kingdom and the Federal Government Technical Committee on the Repositioning of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit
EFCC Secretary
Muhammad Hammajoda is a Public Administrator.
He has extensive experience in Public Finance Management and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maiduguri and a Masters in Business Administration from the same university.
Hammajoda began his career as a lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in Adamawa State.
He worked with the defunct Allied Bank and Standard Trust Bank.
Hammajoda was the former EFCC Director of Accounts.
