The Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, has commended the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for organising an Interfaith break fast for senators and staff of the National Assembly, describing the gesture as one that promotes unity and fellowship among lawmakers and workers.

Speaking during the gathering in Abuja, Senator Jibrin thanked the Senate President for providing the opportunity for Muslim lawmakers to break their fast while also extending hospitality to their Christian colleagues.

He noted that providing food for those observing the Ramadan fast is strongly encouraged in Islam and attracts immense spiritual reward.

“Let me begin by thanking the President of the Senate for organising this gathering for us to break our fast today and also for our Christian brothers and sisters who joined us,” he said.

According to him, acts of charity and kindness during Ramadan are highly valued, adding that anyone who assists in feeding those observing the fast receives blessings from Allah.

Senator Jibrin further explained that the event went beyond merely breaking the fast, saying it served as a platform to strengthen unity and deepen relationships among senators and staff of the National Assembly.

He particularly praised the inclusion of junior staff members in the event, noting that it was the first time such a broad group within the National Assembly community was brought together for the exercise.

“This gathering is not only about breaking the fast; it has helped to bring us together, further unite us and cement the bond among senators as well as staff of the National Assembly,” he said.

The Deputy Senate President also used the occasion to pray for peace, unity and progress in Nigeria, asking God to bless the country and guide its leaders.

He prayed for continued strength and wisdom for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his efforts to steer the nation towards prosperity.

Senator Jibrin also prayed for God’s guidance and strength for Senator Akpabio to continue promoting initiatives that foster unity and national development.

Also speaking on behalf of the Christian faithful at the gathering, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, thanked Senator Akpabio for the gesture and also urged the Legislature to always think about what will bring peace and unity to the nation.

The session concluded with prayers for Nigeria and its leadership, as participants expressed hope for greater cooperation and progress for the people of Nigeria.
