The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s budgeting process, to revamp the economy.
President of the senate, Godswill Akpabio made the affirmation wednesday following a resolution urging the Executive to prioritise the completion of roads that impact on the socio-economic fortunes of the country.
The resolution was sequel to a motion on the “urgent need to rehabilitate the road linking Nigeria and Cameroon through Calabar in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria.”
Senator Akpabio believes that the annual budget must be tailored specifically to address the stipulated issue of concern within a fiscal year.
Suspended Motion
In another development, senate on wednesday suspended its consideration of a motion seeking to investigate a turn around maintenance of Nigeria’s refineries costing about eleven trillion naira since 2010.
The decision to suspend the motion was because of the absence of senate standing committees and Ministers who are key stakeholders in the investigation process.
Senate also deliberated on the flooding issues across the country, seeking urgent intervention of the relevant government Agencies to nib the issue in the bud.
