The immediate past senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Senator Philip Aduda has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Aduda arrived at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja alongside hundreds of his supporters, where he held a closed-door meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Aduda expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, pledging to mobilise significant voter support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“I have a lot of support for the president in the 2027 general election. Like the state chairman rightly said, I was part of the challenge in the past. Now, I have decided to align and work for Mr. President. Victory, by God’s grace, will not be difficult,” he said.

He cited the outcome of the recent Area Council elections in the FCT, where the APC secured five out of six chairmanship seats as an indication of the party’s growing strength. “We achieved five out of six in the last election. I can assure you it will be six out of six in the presidential election. By the grace of God, we will deliver for Mr. President in 2027,” he added.

In his remarks, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, welcomed Aduda into the party, describing his defection as part of a broader trend of opposition politicians joining the APC.

He attributed the development to the party’s “progressive programmes” and President Tinubu’s leadership under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Every progressive in Nigeria is queuing behind the APC because of the reforms and development initiatives being implemented. Projects once thought impossible are now being delivered, and the economy is being repositioned,” Yilwatda said.

He added that Aduda’s entry into the party strengthens its chances in the North Central region, expressing confidence that the zone would align with the APC in future elections.
