The Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, has donated N200 million worth of gadgets to traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the Farm Centre phone market in Kano State North West Nigeria.
The donation was announced during the Senator’s visit to the market following the fire incident that occurred on Friday, which left many traders counting heavy losses.
To further enhance safety and prevent future incidents, Senator Barau also donated one Hilux patrol vehicle and five motorcycles.

He also, committed to installing 1,000 solar-powered streetlights around the market in addition to the construction of a pedestrian bridge to ease access and improve infrastructure in the area.
According to Senator Barau, “the damage caused by the fire is painful, but we are committed to helping you recover,” Senator Barau said during the visit.
“My office will provide gadgets worth N200 million to support your businesses. We will work with your leadership to determine the most useful items for the affected traders.”
The Senator noted that, the market plays a key role in youth employment and economic activity in Kano, and emphasised the need for stronger security and infrastructure to protect livelihoods.
The Market Chairman, Jamilu Gama, praised the Senator for his prompt and generous intervention, calling him a leader who serves beyond his constituency.
“Your Excellency, you have shown once again that you are a true representative of the people. This support will go a long way in helping our members rebuild,” Gama said.
