Senator Sandy Onor Wins PDP Governorship Primary in Cross River

The senator representing central Cross River, Senator Sandy Onor has won the Cross River State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship primary election.

Sandy garnered 236 votes to emerge the party’s flag bearer.

Other aspirants such as former Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo polled 4 votes, Senator Gershom Bassey got 175 and followed closely by member of the house of representatives representing Akamkpa Biase Federal Constituency, Daniel Asuquo had 147 votes.

The PDP Cross River State Governorship Primary Election Committee chairman, Mr. Babajide Coker declared Onor the winner of the peaceful though tension filled contest.

Coker said, “the total number of delegates accredited were 591 and the total total votes cast 591. We had a total of 20 void votes and valid votes were 571. 

“By the powers conferred on me by the national leadership of our great party as chairman of the electoral committee of the PDP gubernatorial convention in Cross River State, I hereby declare Senator Sandy Onor as the winner of the election having polled the highest number of votes. He is hereby returned and elected,” said Coker.

Responding, Senator Onor expressed appreciation to the God almighty and delegates for finding him worthy to be the party’s governorship candidate for the 2023 election.

In an emotion ladden voice, he said, “let me thank my colleagues, who ran this race with me. They were very kind, they were gentle and very responsible people and patriotic people.

“This victory does not just belong to me. It belongs to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Democracy is depending in Nigeria,” he added.
