Sexual Violence: Lagos intensifies awareness campaign

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has continued to step up awareness on Sexual and Gender Based Violence issues, as it reached out to more local residents about the menace.

The agency embarked on another Advocacy campaign at the Amuwo Odofin local government area through its Community Engagement Department.

The Executive Secretary, Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, DSVA, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi at the event called for more collaborative efforts in a bid to rid society of the menace and its attendants effects.

She revealed that the increase advocacy in the grassroots had been impactful as it had raised the level of awareness of these issues and at the same time reporting of the crimes and the perpetrators.

Vivour Adeniyi said the agency through the support from the state government has assisted to achieve the mandate of the agency through concerted effort and gradually the culture of silence is being broken.

“The State Government has made adequate services for survivors including free medical, legal, psychosocial, Counselling, empowerment, emergency services and access to Justice, so, we are urging survivors to take advantage of the free services available at the Agency.”

Mr. Ikudayisi Oluwatobi took turns to addressed the participants on the overview of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, it’s forms and other preventive measures and what victims should do when incidents arise.

In his remarks, Chairman of Community Development Council of the area, Mr. Ralph Egunjobi lauded the Lagos State Government efforts in ensuring such enlightenment campaigns are brought to the community, stressing that the initiative was a welcome development as this will delimit the perpetration of such heinous crimes among the residents irrespective of their ages, positions or creed as he called for more of such intervention in the area.

The toll free line 0-8000-333-333 remains as a channel for prompt reporting of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence SGBV cases incidents in Lagos.
