LAMATA’s legal counsel, Mrs Seun Sonoiki, said this in a sensitisation talk for Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Redline staff, on Thursday in Lagos.

Sonoiki said that the initiative aimed to equip staff with the knowledge and tools to create a safe and respectful environment for passengers using public transportation.

He said it was in partnership with Empower Project Africa and funded by UK Aid.

“The talk focuses on raising awareness about sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) that can occur on public transportation systems.

“The staff were educated on the use of the SheCan tool, which equips bystanders and victims with resources and strategies to intervene and report SGBV incidents.

“By empowering LRMT staff with this knowledge, LAMATA hopes to foster a culture of zero tolerance for SGBV on the public transportation system and its infrastructure,” she said.

She added that the initiative would contribute to a safer and more inclusive commuting experience for everyone in Lagos.
