Skills Acquisition: Foundation empowers Youths in Abuja

A Non-governmental Organization, the Helpline Foundation for the Needy, has empowered youths in the making of traditional attires of Abuja indigenes in Nigeria’s capital

The President of the Foundation, Dr Jumai Ahmadu during the presentation of the batch B economic empowerment initiative, said the organisation in conjunction with stakeholders had selected some natives in each of the Area Councils for training on the making of traditional attires.

According to her, the initiative also aims to preserve the culture of Abuja indigenes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Mrs Ahmadu, who was represented by the Project Manager, Mr Onoja Arome, said the initiative would assist the original inhabitants of FCT to strengthen their economy, creates jobs and reduce inequalities.

“Helpline Foundation with support from Macarthur Foundation through the centre for Human Right and Civil Education flags off local economic development projects for original inhabitants of FCT to strengthen the economy of the people, creates jobs and reduce inequalities.

“At the end of this project, our sustainability plans would be to monitor progress, and commitments by the agency responsible and to make ourselves available to their call anytime for mentorship.” 

In his presentation tagged, ‘Local  Economic Development’ the Project Manager, Mr Onoja Arome said the Foundation would train about 100 vulnerable people in batch B, of its Traditional Skill Transfer.

He said the training of the beneficiaries will commence in February and end in April, 2023.

Some of the participants lauded the initiative and promised to promote the cultural heritage of the original inhabitants of the Federal Capital Territory.

The flag-off of the second batch of the program was held last year.
