Economic Challenges

Commenting on the current Economic challenges Nigeria is facing he said they are not peculiar to the country but a global trend.

“Fourteen additional countries are expected to go into recession in the coming dates. Most of these economies are tied to the global economy just like our country Nigeria.

“This is why the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima are prioritizing job creation and support for small businesses.

“Everywhere you look at this country at the moment, you will see significant initiatives that are focused on creating jobs but also supporting small businesses as well,” he stated.

Tijani said; “GDP is really how governments determine whether they are doing well and whether we are contributing to the wellbeing of the nation. Small businesses in Nigeria contribute about 48 percent to our GDP so these small businesses you see around your offices or somewhere close to your home contribute 48 percent to our GDP that is how important they are.”

He also highlighted Nigeria currently transfers a lot of technical jobs abroad thus raising the profile of Nigeria.

On his part, the Information and National Orientation Minister, Mohammed Idris also reiterated government’s commitment to the sustenance of Small businesses in the country.

Idris, represented by the Director General, Voice of Nigeria, Malam Jibrin Ndace, also buttressed the commitment of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration to enhancing businesses in Nigeria, to boost the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

He said: “Already, the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies responsible for job creation and the development of the MSMEs have started rolling out various initiatives to attain Mr. President’s objective for the sector.

“The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment recently announced that it will be unveiling a groundbreaking innovation aimed at revolutionizing the job market and fostering greater employment opportunities for Nigerians through the establishment of the National Job Centre.

The Minister further disclosed that President Tinubu is poised to unlock the business potentials of the country.

Idris said; “The President is spearheading systemic reforms, eliminating wastage, and unlocking vast opportunities across the various sectors of the economy to boost our Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generate employment for our teeming youth.

“The MSMEs in Nigeria have been our beacon of hope, as they have remained steadfast and resilient, unarguably demonstrating the ability to weather the storm in the face of enormous challenges, including the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic ramifications.”

There is also the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC), which was set up to remove bureaucratic constraints to doing business in Nigeria and make the country a progressively easier place to start and grow a business,” he added.
