The special adviser on security to Sokoto State Governor, Col. Usman Ahmed (rtd), has reassured the Nigerian Army and other security operatives of more logistics support to rid the state of any form of criminalities.

Col. Ahmed made the assurance at the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) organised by the 8 Division Headquarters, Nigerian Army, in Sokoto State.

According to him, the state government has provided more support, but it will not relent in doing everything possible within the limited resources to assist troops in ensuring peace across the state.

The special adviser who represented Governor Ahmed Aliyu as special guest of Honour at the event expressed confidence that the Nigerian Army remains a fulcrum and strategic institution capable of securing Nigeria.

“The Sokoto government and the entire people of the state are saluting the Nigerian Army and their families for their sacrifices and resilience in making the country secure.

“As a government, we will continue to support you with logistics and intelligence reports for sustained operations in defence of the country’s sovereignty as well as providing more security to the state,” he assured.

He described the annual event as an avenue for promoting unity, harmony and brotherhood within the Army by showcasing the diverse, rich cultural heritage of the country.

He commended the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, for his commitment towards organising the annual WASA event and the opportunity given him to serve as a special guest of honour.

The special adviser thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his support to the state and security operatives as a whole.

Earlier, in his remarks, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, said WASA is an annual event that is usually organized for officers, soldiers, and their families to interact in a conducive atmosphere.

General Ajose added that the celebration would allow officers and men of the Nigerian Army to review successes recorded in the previous year and prepare ahead.

He noted that the troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have recorded tremendous successes that lead to the return to normal activities in various communities within the area of responsibility.

“Some of the successes include operationalisation of 248 Recce Bn in Illelah, recent deployment of Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Battalion VII in Gudu, new NAF air assets and other combat enablers launched into the operation which have been a force multiplier, leading to several successes recorded in the operation.

“The war against banditry and terrorists across the Area of Responsibility has been progressively and steadily won by our troops, as several bandit leaders and their supporters have been eliminated.

“This is no doubt boosting socio-economic activities across the Area of Responsibility, as farmers and loyal citizens are now going about their activities, boosting confidence reposed in us by the populace,” he said.

He urged troops to renew commitments to the defence and security of the nation, despite the challenges. He urged all to be vigilant in security matters, especially in this present time.

General Ajose tasked personnel to always be professional when carrying out assigned tasks, urging them to maintain discipline under all circumstances.

The GOC thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his continuous support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the 8 Division, in ensuring the effective discharge of their responsibilities.

The highlights of the WASA celebration were the presentations of awards to personnel who distinguished themselves in the discharge of their responsibilities in the year 2024, a tug-of-war competition, and cultural displays by different ethnic groups, among others.
