Sokoto Philanthropist Donates N142.1 Million, other materials To Vulnerables

A Philanthropist, Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya, has donated N142.1 million and 3,0080 bags of 25kg rice to vulnerable, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) across 23 local government areas of Sokoto State.
Inaugurating the distribution through the Sokoto State Zakat and Endowment Agency, Dan’iya said the gesture was part of his contribution to assist the needy during the holy month and also, to reduce hardship faced by citizens in the state.
According to him, the gesture is aimed at ensuring that people live happily, particularly in the blessed month of Ramadan.
He said 19 local governments will receive N5 million and 100 bags of 25kg rice, while the remaining 4 worst-hit banditry local governments will receive N10 million and 200 bags of 25 kg rice each.
“The local government areas include Isa, Sabon Birni, Goronyo, and Rabah local government areas.
“Additionally, the remaining 19 council areas in the state will receive five million Naira with 100 bags of rice each,” he said.
Dan’iya further donated cash and bags of rice to the Correctional Centre, hospitals, Mosques and residents of Hubbaren Shehu area.
He appealed to other wealthy individuals and those holding political positions to also assist the needy in this sacred month.

The Philanthropist further thanked Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State for introducing programmes aimed at improving the lives of the people of the state.
“Since his inauguration, Governor Aliyu has been initiating one programme or the other aimed at improving the living standard of our people. This is in addition to several laudable projects being executed by his government across the 23 local government areas,” he added.
He also thanked All Progressive Congress (APC) leader in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and other chieftains of APC, particularly his mentor and Jarman Sokoto, Alhaji Umarun Kwabo AA.
Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya said he would continue to introduce social welfare programmes aimed at assisting the general public, particularly the weak, needy and vulnerable.
“Equally, we would continue to execute meaningful projects for the overall development of our dear state,” he noted.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Zakkat and Endowment Agency, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki, thanked the donor who he said has been identifying with the masses in this difficult time.
“Dan’iya has been supporting and assisting the needy for years. We pray to Allah to Increase you in wealth and good health.
“We also appeal to other well-to-do individuals to emulate his gesture because this is the month where every good deed is getting multiple rewards from the creator,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the community leaders and Sarkin Fulani, Muhammad Nasir, while commending the gesture, prayed to Allah to reward him abundantly.
