The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested Nasiru Idris with 101 Permanent Voters Cards in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the State.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ussaini Gumel, stated this at a brief ceremony to decorate six newly promoted Officers in Sokoto State.
Gumel said the man was nabbed on 10th October for being suspected of having in his possession bulk permanent voters cards.
He said; “this suspect was arrested and the PVCs was not only from Sabon Birni local government, but could be from other parts of the state as the police are yet to trace the rightful owners.
“In view of the development, police in this command is calling on all the media outlets to reach out to the public so that those whose PVCs are either missing or misplaced could come to the Sokoto State Police Headquarters to check the names on the display at the information bulletin board for claims.”
Gumel noted that the command would return all unclaimed PVCs after one month to the INEC for further necessary action.
He said the progress was part of commitment by State Police Command to support Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct free, fair and credible elections and to ensure the integrity of all the electoral processes starting from campaigns to voting.
According to him, the six newly promoted Officers are: Sule Balarabe from Deputy Commissioner, DC to Commissioner of Police CP, Ibrahim Adamu from Assistant Commissioner of Police, AC to Deputy Commissioner of Police and Hamza Ali from Chief Supretendant of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police.
Others are: Christopher Chiroma, Muhammad Tambuwal and Jibrin Haruna, they are all from Supretendant of Police, SP to Chief Supretendant of Police, CSP.
