Sokoto Restates Commitment To Partner with NGOs for Improved Healthcare

The Sokoto State Government says it will continue to partner with any non-governmental organisation for improved healthcare services delivery at all primary healthcare centres across the state. Governor Ahmed Aliyu stated this at the official ground-breaking ceremony for the renovation of eleven primary healthcare centres (PHCs) in Sokoto state.

The construction and renovation of the healthcare facilities would be carryout in 7 local government areas in collaboration with Sokoto State Government and a Non-governmental organisation “Plan International.”

According to Governor Aliyu, the project is in line with his administration’s 9-Point Agenda of improving healthcare services delivery among communities in the state.

He commended the NGO for their commitments towards partnering the state government to provide and improve conducive atmosphere for healthcare services delivery in the state.

Governor Aliyu who was represented by his Deputy, Idris Gobir, assured them their administration readiness to partner any stakeholder that would contribute his quota to move the state.

In her welcome remarks, the state Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Asabe Balarabe, described the intervention by the organization as timely which would support government policies in the state.

Hajiya Balarabe thanked Plan International for ensuring a step towards making the commencement of the project reality in the state.

The Commissioner added that the project would improve healthcare services delivery and reduce maternal mortality among women and children across the state.

Also speaking, Canadian High Commissioner in Nigeria, Jamie Christoff, said the projects was a five year program aimed at improving reproductive health among women, girls  and vulnerable in two states of Sokoto and Bauchi.

The Canadian High Commissioner who was represented by Plan International Country Director, Mr Ussie Charles, said the projects is funded by Global Affairs Canada aimed at reducing gender based violence, advancing healthcare among women and children in the state.

Mr Charles lauded  sokoto state government for their support towards the organisation in the state.

The Sole Administrators of benefitting local government areas applauded the NGO for initiating the projects and pledged to set up modalities for sustaining the facilities if completed. Also the traditional leaders of the benefitting communities thanked the organization for the intervention and assured their continued support and cooperation at all the time.

The seven benefitting local government areas include: Sokoto South and North, Wamakko, Kware, Tambuwal, Gwadabawa and Binji.
