The Sokoto State Government has announced an allocation of over N998 million for its 2025 Ramadan feeding programme, aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by Muslims during the holy month.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu, while inaugurating the initiative, emphasised the administration’s commitment to expanding the programme to reach more beneficiaries.

He noted that last year the state provided chicken, beef as well as fruits to over 130 feeding centres across the state.
“This year, we have increased the number to 155 centres to decongest existing locations and ensure easier access to meals for fasting individuals,” the governor stated.

Beyond the feeding initiative, Governor Aliyu also directed the distribution of financial assistance to key Islamic groups and scholars.
“These funds are intended to support our Islamic scholars, leaders, and educators, who play a crucial role in guiding the community through this blessed month and beyond,” he said.

The programme includes the distribution of bags of maize and financial aid to religious leaders and institutions:
- Imams of Juma’at mosques: Five bags of maize and N100,000 each
- Deputy Imams (Naibs): Three bags of maize and N50,000 each
- Muazzins: Two bags of maize and N50,000 each
- Senior Islamic scholars: 300 scholars to receive N200,000 each
- Another 100 scholars: N100,000 each
- Malaman Zaure (10 per ward across 23 LGAs): N50,000 each

Mosque Renovations and Employment Opportunities
Governor Aliyu further disclosed that the state has embarked on the reconstruction of numerous Jumu’at mosques, with three already completed and 30 others in various stages of construction.
In addition, the Ramadan programme is expected to create 1,400 temporary jobs, particularly for women, who will be engaged in preparing meals for distribution at the feeding centres.
Call for Unity and Prayers
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to religious development, urging community leaders and residents to pray for peace and security in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
Also speaking at the event, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Professor Jabir Sani Maihulla, stated that over 600,000 people are expected to benefit from the feeding programme, with meals including cooked rice with chicken, fruits, and water provided at all 155 centres.
He encouraged beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by offering prayers for the successful conduct of Ramadan and the continued success of the administration.
