Sokoto state approves N12bn for agro financing

The Sokoto state government has approved the sum of twelve billion naira to finance agricultural schemes targeted at boosting food production in the state.

The state Commissioner for finance, Abdulsamad Dasuki made this known while addressing the journalists after the state’s executive council meeting presided over by the state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, at the state executive council chambers recently.

According to the Commissioner, the approval was aimed at making the state economically self-reliant and executing some road construction projects.

The council also approved the sum of four billion naira for agricultural development program in that state at a sitting presided over by the Deputy Governor, Muhammad Manir Dan’Iya,

Speaking further on the approval, the state commissioner for Animal Health and Fisheries development Professor Abdulkadir Junaid, said that the four billion naira was a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), commercial agricultural credit scheme, and loan facility through commercial banks.

Junaid, who is also overseeing the state ministry for Agriculture, informed that a total of 16,876 farmers were expected to benefit from the scheme.

The Commissioner emphasized that the program would also benefit Rice, Wheat, and Tomatoes farmers and would be supervised by the state’s advisory committee and approved consultants.

Junaid assured that approval had been given to the purchase of over forty-five thousand liters of herbicide, and over forty-two thousand liters of insecticides with two thousand six hundred and ten units of sprayers valued at over three hundred and sixty million naira.
